Prayer Team Guidelines

A Firm Foundation Bible Conference

April 3-6, 2000

A Firm Foundation is a conference for both teaching and spiritual renewal for pastors, church staff, and those in leadership in various churches. We ask our prayer team for the highest standard of Christ-like behavior in ministering to those who come to the conference. Your prayer with the shepherds may be the high point of the conference for many.

To ensure that conference participants are blessed and supported by our ministry, we ask that the following guidelines be maintained:

  1. Do ask people if you can pray with them.
  2. Do pray that God’s will be done in each life.
  3. Do ask people if you can anoint them.
  4. Do Listen first, then speak, both to the person and to the Holy Spirit
  5. Do lay aside your own agenda
  6. Do pray for all the conference participants, speakers and leaders at all times
  7. Do use the altar rail whenever possible.
  8. Do work with the conference leadership.
  1. Do not seek manifestations. Don’t push, pray till they drop, or suggest manifestations in prayer. Let anything that does happen be genuine beyond question.
  2. Do not be frightened of manifestations. If someone is slain in the spirit, shakes, or anything else, do not be concerned. Just carry on with your ministry. Use the modesty cloths if needed for any reason.
  3. Do not keep very disruptive behavior in the conference room. If something needs privacy, use the prayer room.
  4. Do not pray manipulative prayers. Let’s all be humble and submitted to God’s will.
  5. Do not get into deliverance prayer without permission and understanding of the one you are praying with.

[...] I am posting a sample of prayer team guidelines that come from our “Firm Foundation” conference from the year 2000. This is just a sample. You will note the comments on manifestations. You don’t need to say anything abou those if they are not a factor in your church or ministry. At the time this conference was offered, there were many people who were either seeking physical manifestations–falling (slain in the Spirit), laughing, and so forth)–while others were either fearful or hostile. Since I knew the issue would come up, I let the prayer team know. As things turned out, the ministry time at the conference functioned very smoothly, and God’s presence was manifested. [...]
